Luceram Village

On Easter Sunday driving to Luceram Village, a 90minute drive from Grasse and located North of Nice, we saw this structure on top of a mountain that looked like a castle and said hey, look at this castle. Little that we know that these were ruins of a really old castle near the village of Chateauneuf-Villevielle.

The ruins of the old 11th century medieval village sit on the 725m high hill south of the newer village. From this vantage point, there's an incredible view in all directions. One can see the ancient ruins in the foreground, with the snow-covered Alps, ocean toward Nice, and other villages located around here.

To the southeast is the village of Tourrettes-Levens and the other village close by is Contes.

Most of the once-tall donjon tower (the main tower) still remains, and from inside you can look out in different directions to see the landscape and get an idea of why this place was chosen for protection so long ago.

Luceram Village

This unique, perched medieval village is located about 22 km north of Nice and looks out over a rich green landscape.

The main road cuts through the center along the valley. `Everything in this village is made of stone including the houses. There are two mountain streams that flow through and below Luceram village.

There is a 15th-century medieval tower at the northern corner of the village.

We got to see snow and sunshine - within an hour - we left the Village to drive North but had to turn around 10 minutes later because it started to snow really hard and there was low visibility.

We drove through the village again and this time, all the red roofs were covered in snow!!

As we got back to Nice the sun was just setting so we got to enjoy a beautiful sunset.
